Rovers beat a number of clubs to the signature of this highly rated defender. Gavin has represented the Republic of Ireland at schoolboy levels.

A strong defender who is also good in the air, he scored his first Rovers goal in their 3-1 victory over Manchester City at the beginning of November 2007.

Indeed it went on to be a month to remember for the Irishman, after representing the Reserves in a friendly against Jersey, Gavin went onto make his Reserve league debut in Rovers' 4-2 win over Newcastle United later that month.
