AROUND THE GROUND
Local things of interest: A trip to Old Trafford offers the opportunity for sightseers to boggle their minds at the sheer might of the commercial enterprise that is Manchester United. The Superstore can be found on Sir Matt Busby Way, the Megastore behind the Stretford End, and the Matchday Store on the corners of the North and East stands. Nearby is the Old Trafford cricket ground. If you do want to step outside Manchester Piccadilly station you can inspect the brand spanking new Arndale Centre and the Royal Exchange Theatre, now rebuilt following the bombing of a few years back.
Pubs: Pubs near the ground and in the canalside area of Salford Quays are largely both packed to the rafters and restricted to home fans only on match days. Further down the Chester Road you'll find The Gorse Hill Hotel, a big traditional pub with a big traditional telly. (Note: away supporters are generally expected to hide colours).
Local Eateries: Try the "curry mile" in Wilmslow Rd, Rushholm - more Indian restaurants in one mile than anywhere in the country. Alternatively, if you get off the Metrolink one stop early at Trafford Bar (not a pub) you'll see the Tollgate Inn, which does hot food. Other decent food options can be found in nearby Salford Quays. There's also is a fish and chip shop on the corner of Sir Matt Busby Way and the usual burger/takeaway vans outside the ground.
