Finnish test for Rovers
ROVERS will face Finnish opposition in the UEFA Cup second qualification stage.
The draw, made this lunchtime, will see Rovers travel to Finland to take on MyPa-47 on Thursday August 16th, with the home leg at Ewood Park on Thursday 30th August.
Myllykosken Pallo-47 are more commonly known as MyPa, they reached stage 2 of the qualification process courtesy of a 2-1 aggregate victory over EB/Streymur of the Faroe Islands.
Based in Anjalankoski, North East of the capital Helsinki, they are currently 4th in the Finnish league, with six wins, four draws and four defeats from their fourteen games played.
No stranger to European competition, MyPa faced Liverpool in 1996 in the Cup Winners Cup, Liverpool winning the first leg 1-0 in Finland and 3-1 at Anfield. Dundee United and Motherwell have both been defeated in previous years.
Finnish champions in 2005/06, they defeated Welsh club TNS in the Champions League qualifiers.
Some of their former players include Jari Litmanen, Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia and former Crystal Palace and Feyenoord midfielder Joonas Kolkka.
The Anjalankoski Stadium has a capacity of 4100.
