Hughes happy with UEFA draw
BOSS Mark Hughes was reasonably satisfied with today's UEFA Cup draw.
Rovers will face Greek side AE Larissa in the first round of the European competition, away in the first leg, home in the second.
"We could have had worse draws," admitted Hughes. "The likes of Zagreb were in the mix and we could have come up against them. There were more difficult opponents that we could have had so we are reasonably pleased with it.
"They are a little bit of an unknown quantity, but there is a Rovers connection with one of our ex-players being the manager there, so there'll be a nice angle on the game from that point of view.
"But we've just got to approach the game as we have done in the last two that we've been involved in. Just get good professional performances and get the job done."
Rovers travel to Greece for the match on Thursday 20th September, with the return leg at Ewood Park a fortnight later on 4th October, which the manager feels is plenty of time for his scouts to get the low-down on the opposition.
"We've got a little bit of time, the first leg is just under three weeks away, but they haven't had many competitive games, their season starts this weekend, so maybe that is to our advantage.
"We'll be able to see them leading into the game, we'll have plenty of information on them."
Club officials will travel out to Greece on Tuesday next week, with venue and kick-off times are expected to be confirmed on their return.
In conjunction with Leisure Path, our official travel partner, the club are investigating the possibility of running a charter flight for supporters who wish to make the trip. A further announcement on this will be made as soon as possible. Fans who are interested should register with Barbara Magee, email bmagee@rover-mail.co.uk
