A big three points
ROVERS boss Mark Hughes was delighted that his side came from behind to secure a welcome three points with a 3-1 win over Newcastle United.
November was a month to forget for Blackburn Rovers, but it was quickly consigned to history as the Lancashire club got back to winning ways in a thrilling encounter at Ewood Park.
After a slow first half, the game burst into life moments after the restart when Geremi's free-kick was glanced home by Martins. But Rovers hit back quickly, David Bentley hitting two superb strikes to put the home side in front.
Nerves were settled in the final throes when Tugay stroked the ball home in injury time, to give manager Mark Hughes a welcome three points.
"I thought the lads showed great quality," said Hughes on Radio Rovers after the game. "It was a fantastic free-kick from David to get us back on level terms.
"For a neutral I would imagine it was a fairly good game to watch but from my point of view, and I'm sure Sam's, a few of the things we were seeing were a little bit frustrating from our point of view.
"But I'm delighted with the attitude that the guys showed. It was difficult today but I thought we showed great qualities given what happened on Wednesday night.
"Newcastle asked questions of us but thankfully it didn't happen, we defended really well and broke quickly on occasions and in fairness we could have scored a number on the break.
"We are delighted with the points, it is a huge three points for us."
The first half was immediately forgetable with chances at a premium for both sides, with the Rovers boss feeling that Wednesday night's efforts may had played its part in a slow start.
"Maybe it was a consequence of our efforts on Wednesday, but the second half we were much better in that respect, the goal we conceded woke us up somewhat and we knew we were in a situation that we had to work extremely hard to get out of.
"I thought we were good value, we had to stick at it, sometimes you have to win ugly and at times it was, but we still showed great qualities that we'll need right until the end of the season."
