Hughes - We've got to address defensive lapses. |
MANAGER Mark Hughes was delighted with the comeback, but bemoaned his side's ability to defend properly as they drew 3-3 with Birmingham this afternoon.
Rovers were off to a flier with Jansen's goal after just three minutes, but defensive lapses saw the visitors go in at half time 3-1 in front.
Thankfully Rovers upped the tempo in the second half, with goals from Reid and Gallagher, but Hughes has said that the players have got to start defending properly.
"We can't keep giving ourselves such mountains to climb," said the manager on Radio Rovers after the game.
"We've been able to do it the last few weeks, but if you put yourselves in positions where you are continually trying to get back into games eventually it'll drag you down.
"We've really got to address our defensive lapses. Having done well in recent games, today we were poor again, so we need to work a lot harder on that.
"Once we get that defensive platform I have no doubt that given our sprit and qualities it will stand us in good stead.
"It was a perfect start for us, and you look to build on that, but we slipped back and invited them onto us and found ourselves two goals behind.
"Second half we made a couple of changes and thankfully made an impact, and got back into a game that possibly should have been beyond us.
"The response that I got was exactly what was needed.
"To be fair we could have won it with the chance that Paul Dickov had but that possibly could have been unfair on Birmingham.
"We have to be happy, given the circumstances, to have gotten something out of the game."
