MARK Hughes has stressed the importance of being positive and getting positive results on home soil between now and the end of the season - starting this weekend.

Rovers, who remain just four points behind sixth-placed Portsmouth in the race for European qualification, host Wigan at Ewood Park on Saturday and the manager is eager for his side to get back on track after picking up just one point from their last two games.

The Welshman said: "I think it is a case of getting positive results at Ewood, which is something that we've struggled with for whatever reason this season. Our away form has been better.

"We still feel we are very much in the mix for a European spot, but now, if we are all honest with ourselves, it is via the Intertoto Cup.

"We are disappointed with the last two games because we've been in winning positions and haven't been able to capitalise on that.

"But I think the important thing from our point of view, and the good thing from the weekend, was that results elsewhere didn't really affect us too adversely and we are still very much in the position we were in before the game against West Ham had kicked off.

"Obviously it is more difficult now because we have one less game, but I think it is important that we've got to be really positive at home and understand that teams will come to try and frustrate us and we have to deal with that better than possibly we have done this season.

"We have to view that as progress - an acceptance of the success that we've had that teams now see Blackburn Rovers as one of the better teams in the league. It is a case of ourselves dealing with that situation as well as we can and making sure we get positive results.

"We've been getting positive results, but maybe not the maximums that you need at this stage of the season because that can make such a difference as to whether or not you stay where you are or move up the table.

"We need to start well against Wigan. If we get a head of steam and the crowd gets behind us then there is no reason why we can't overcome them."

Saturday's game at Ewood Park is a Team Rovers Members day, Team Rovers members can see the game against Wigan for just £1, find out more details here.
