ROVERS boss Mark Hughes is confident his side can maintain their excellent record against teams in the bottom half of the table when they visit relegation-threatened Birmingham City on Sunday.

Rovers have lost just once all season against teams in the league's lower reaches - a shock 5-3 defeat away to Wigan back in December - and Hughes hopes the pressure Birmingham are under will play into his side's hands.

"In the past, there have been a couple of defeats that have obviously figured in people's minds that they remember," said the Welshman.

"Certainly one against Watford away last year was a disappointment for us, but this year more often than not we've gone to teams below us and beaten them - and that is what we need to do again.

"It is going to be one hell of an atmosphere there so we've got to be ready for that, but I just think it will be a really difficult game for Birmingham. Everybody is going to be trying to get an insight into what is happening in other games and there'll be a really tense atmosphere.

"But if we show anything like what we are capable of, I think that will further worry them."
