David Thompson
Tommo is enjoying his football again

DAVID Thompson is buzzing with optimism as he contemplates the challenges ahead.

The influential midfielder, now 27, has more reasons than most for looking forward to the Premiership programme. He's battled back to fitness after overcoming knee surgery and an ankle problem which stalled his return earlier this season.

With a couple of cameo substitute appearances in Rovers' recent matches, Tommo has signalled his comeback and he's lost none of his natural enthusiasm.

"I'm really excited to be back, I enjoy being around the lads and the camaraderie," he said today.

"Mark (Hughes) has come in and picked the lads up, the training is a lot more scientific, and I think it is paying off in our performances.

"Besides the first half last Sunday, we've been showing signs of improvement, we are looking like we are going to get that win. We are looking like scoring goals, we are looking better as a team at the moment."

Tommo readily admits the frustrations of being injured for such a long period have been difficult to bear.

"I've missed the last two years of football, I just want to get back playing and enjoying myself. To come off on a Saturday knowing that I've earned my wages that you've worked hard and the team has got three points.

"My life has a purpose now, I'd forgotten what it was like to be a footballer."

Can David Thompson get the opening goal against Fulham this Saturday? The Rovers midfielder is 16/1 to grab the first goal on Rovers Bet. Remember, every bet placed with Rovers Bet helps your club.
