Biography:
Rovers signed this young striker for a nominal fee from local side Great Harwood Town.
Blackburn born, Derbyshire has great pace and an eye for goal, and impressive performances in the reserves lead to Matt making his senior debut as a substitute against Fulham at the end of the 2004/05 season.
For the 2005/06 season Matt started out on loan with Championship side Plymouth Argyle but due to a change in management at the south west club he found his chances hard to come by and was recalled during the January transfer window.
League two side Wrexham took advantage of his recall and were able to reap the rewards of some impressive performances from the young striker. Scoring twice on his debut, he followed that up a week later with another brace. At the end of the season he had scored ten goals for the Welsh side.
Made his first start in a Rovers shirt in their UEFA Cup match against AS Nancy in December 2006 and grabbed his first goal in Rovers' 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic on New Years Day.
Impressive club displays earned Derbyshire a call-up to England's under 21 side and he famously scored in the first match at the rebuilt Wembley.
