After a successful trial with the club, Mark Hughes made the move permanent when he signed Bruno for a small fee from Swiss side FC Basel.
An experienced defender, he started his career with Grasshoppers Zurich before securing a move to German side Freiburg in 2002. A three year spell with the Bundesliga club came to an end when he returned to Swiss football with Basel.
Berner has also represented his country and has 16 caps for Switzerland to his name.
The 2007/08 campaign got off the worst possible start from Bruno when he sustained a broken foot during pre-season which meant he missed the first two and a half months of the campaign. But now free of injury Bruno will be hoping to push for a regular spot in the first team squad.
